Volcanic eruptions and environments create a wide range of activity that emplace different deposit types. By studying the deposits through field work, lab work, and computing methods, volcanologists can investigate how the material was emplaced, how it traveled, how it was erupted, what the magma did before it traveled, how the magma and its components formed, and more. This can help volcanologists understand what a volcano might do in the future to help communities who may be impacted.
