Eruptive History

There is data available for 2 confirmed Holocene eruptive periods.

1253 BCE ± 126 years Confirmed Eruption VEI: 5

Episode 1 | Eruption A1 tephra
1253 BCE ± 126 years - Unknown Evidence from Isotopic: 14C (calibrated)
Tephra layer AIII, 14C dated about 3,345 BP from a sample immediately below the tephra, was tentatively considered on the basis of geochemical evidence to originate from Aguilera volcano and to be correlative with Auer tephras I and III at Lake Argentina (Stern, 1990). Kilian et al. (2003) obtained a a minimum age of 3,879 ± 32 BP from peat 15 cm below the tephra. Stern (2008) estimated a calibrated age 3,067-3,339 BP (1253 ± 136 BCE).
